  1. Plumber-Mechanic

    Division:       Mechanical

    Reports To:   Supervisor

    Summary:  Assembles, installs and repairs pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water and drainage systems.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Installs piping such as steel, copper, cast iron, plastic.
    • Installs boiler pumps, cooling towers, back flow preventers, chillers
    • Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
    • Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe
    • Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors
    • Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings
    • Cuts threads and pipe
    • Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass, and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic
    • Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints
    • Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking.
    • Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures and carriers
    • Installs sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters and hot water tanks
    • Welds holding fixtures to steel structures
    • Observes job-site and reports and corrects any unsafe working conditions
    • Other duties may be assigned


    Supervisory Responsibilities: 

    • Directly supervises 1 to 3 employees
    • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.
    • Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work.
    • Must be able to lift 50lbs. with both hands

    • High school diploma, GED
    • 3-4 years of experience and/or training
    • Journeyman’s license is required

  2. Welder-Fitter

    Job Title:                      Welder-Fitter

    Division:                       Mechanical

    Reports To:                  Mechanical Superintendent

    FLSA Status:               Non-Exempt

    Summary:  Lay outs, fits and welds fabricated, cast and forged components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells and building and bridge parts.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Selects equipment and plans layout, assembly and welding.
    • Lays out, positions, aligns and fits components together
    • Bolts, clamps and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding
    • Sets up equipment and welds parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas welding equipment
    • Assembles parts by bolting and riveting
    • Repairs products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts
    • Must be able to bend to lift approximately 50 lbs. or more
    • Other duties may be assigned

  3. Electrical-Mechanic

    Division:                       Electrical

    Reports To:                  Supervisor

    FLSA Status:               Non-Exempt

    Summary: Plans layout, installs and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes
    • Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings and floors
    • Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit
    • Pulls wiring through conduit
    • Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps
    • Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment
    • Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels
    • Connects power cables to equipment and installs grounding leads
    • Traces out short circuits in wiring, able to bend and stand for long periods of time.
    • Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as voltmeter, ohmmeter, and continuity buzzer
    • Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement
    • Observes job-site and reports or corrects any unsafe working conditions
    • Repairs faulty equipment or systems
    • Provides and operates own hand tools on job-site
    • Reports daily quantities installed
    • Other duties may be assigned

  4. HVAC Technician

    Division:                       Service

    Reports To:                  Service Manager

    FLSA Status:                Non-Exempt

    Summary:  Installs, repairs or maintains heating, ventilation and air condition systems in residential, commercial and industrial buildings.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Maintains and able to troubleshoot HVAC systems such as heat pumps, water source heat pumps, chilled water systems, boilers, rooftop heating and cooling units, and automatic temperature controls.
    • Obtains price quotations on materials and purchases materials such as sheet metal, compressors and fans from suppliers and tests equipment to verify that equipment is functioning.
    • Examines installed air conditioning systems to verify that system is functioning.
    • Compiles labor and material cost figures and supporting media for billing purposes.
    • Attends classes and seminars on air conditioning components and system design to update skills.
    • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
    • Maintains time and production records
    • Replaces exhausted or defective containers of refrigerant with new refrigerant
    • Lubricates fans, motors, and control units
    • Installs air and water filters in completed assembly
    • Checks and adjusts control system components
    • Maintains good customer relations by communicating with the customer, leaving work area clean and orderly and resolving any customer concerns


    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Directly Supervises one or more employees on occasion
    • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizations policies and applicable laws

A registered apprentice is a highly committed individual who works full time under the direction of a journey-worker or master while attending classes in the evening. Rommel Construction partners alongside of our apprentices and helps both with technical advice, direction and financial assistance for the schooling.
